Welcome to the Civic iLab

Mission

The Laboratory for Civic Innovation (Civic iLab) is a social enterprise dedicated to fostering sustainable communities through service, philanthropy, and social innovation.

We make it easy for you to make a difference using your time, talent, treasure, voice, ideas and network.

Shared Passion

The Laboratory for Civic Innovation organizes skill-based volunteers, pro bono consultants, and #prosonloan that share a resolve to support others through servant-leadership and collective impact. They also share a mission to drive positive change by activating the social capital of individuals and institutions in their lives working to make the world a better place.

Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we are seeking stakeholder advocates who have diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and cultural perspectives. Framed in the JEDI mindset of sustainability – through the lens of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion our values and value behaviors feed innovation and lead to meaningful service experiences.

Programs & Activities

As the civic action tank of Doing Good Business, the Laboratory for Civic Innovation operates tax-exempt activities through a fiscal agent relationship with Ubuntu Institute of Learning. Configured as a public benefit corporation, our programs use the service enterprise business model to operate as lean startup studio for purpose-driven, short- and long-term initiatives. We leverage strategic shared services, affiliate channel partnerships and human capacity at scale to address the magnitude of the challenges we face.

The Civic iLab hosts sponsored, technology-enhanced projects like the #DoRealGood civic commerce platform and community of practice that facilitate access to education, empowerment and economic opportunity.

Initiatives like MyCivic.LA bring people together to strengthen communities through meaningful volunteer action; and TheBeloved.Community supports collaborative philanthropy through a variety of giving circles, donor advised and field of interest funds.
